About Our Client: Our client is a leading corporate and commercial law firm in Perth, known for delivering high-quality legal services to a diverse range of clients, from large corporations to SMEs. As part of their continued growth and evolution, they are looking to expand their service offerings by establishing a new Employment Law practice area. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Employment Lawyer to help build and lead this practice, dovetailing seamlessly with their existing commercial and corporate work. The Role: As the Senior Employment Lawyer, you will be at the forefront of launching and growing their new Employment Law practice. You will have the autonomy to shape and develop the practice area, working closely with partners and senior leaders in the firm. Your role will involve providing high-level advice to both corporate clients and executives on a wide range of employment law matters, including workplace relations, employment disputes, discrimination, workplace health and safety, executive contracts, and compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven, entrepreneurial lawyer who is looking to step into a leadership role, create a new practice from the ground up, and establish a strong market presence. You will be instrumental in setting up the foundations for the practice, building relationships with clients, and mentoring junior lawyers as the team expands. Key Responsibilities: - Establish and grow the firm’s Employment Law practice, integrating it with their existing corporate and commercial law services. - Provide strategic legal advice to corporate clients and executives on employment-related issues such as workplace disputes, restructuring, employee relations, and compliance with workplace laws. - Advise on executive and senior management contracts, redundancy processes, and performance management issues. - Represent clients in employment tribunals, industrial relations matters, and unfair dismissal claims. - Develop strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to businesses and key decision-makers. - Collaborate with partners across other practice areas, including commercial and corporate, to deliver integrated solutions to clients. - Lead, manage, and mentor junior lawyers and paralegals, building the team and fostering a positive and supportive work environment. - Contribute to the firm’s business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, networking, and marketing the new practice area. - Stay up-to-date with developments in employment law and workplace relations, ensuring the firm’s advice is aligned with the latest legislative changes. About You: To succeed in this role, you will have:   - At least 5 years of experience in employment law, ideally with a strong background in corporate or commercial law environments. - Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of employment law, including complex workplace disputes, employee relations, and compliance. - Strong experience in advising both employers and executives, with an in-depth understanding of workplace relations and employment legislation. - A proven track record of managing and growing a legal practice, with the ability to develop a client base and deliver high-quality, practical legal advice. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, with the ability to effectively represent clients in formal proceedings and negotiations. - Strong business acumen, with the ability to contribute to the firm’s overall strategy and growth. - Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor junior lawyers and build a strong, cohesive team. - A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset, with a passion for building and growing a new practice area. What's on Offer: - Competitive salary and performance-based incentives. - The opportunity to lead the development of a new, high-profile practice area within a well-established firm. - A collaborative, supportive work environment where your ideas and contributions are valued. - Clear pathways for career progression, with the potential for equity partnership. - Flexible working arrangements, including the option for hybrid or remote work. - A firm culture focused on professional development, innovation, and a strong work-life balance. - The chance to work alongside high-caliber practitioners in other commercial and corporate practice areas. How to Apply: If you are a senior employment lawyer with a passion for building new practices and driving strategic growth, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience, your vision for establishing and growing an Employment Law practice, and why you are interested in joining.
